Boston Brass West Palm Beach Concert reviews
Evanescence Orchestra Show
Many years ago, Amy Lee and the band Boston Brass found fame in a large and diverse audience from all walks of life, from stereotypical goth kids lamenting their teen years to everyday mundane folks. I have always been a fan of Amy Lee and the band Boston Brass, and I wanted to see them in concert, but I never had the opportunity to see them live when they first came out.
I was a stay-at-home mother of 4 children whose husband was often on deployments in the US Navy during my children's formative years. I could not take a break for myself. Thankfully, my oldest child, a teen at the time, loved the band and would blast their music while doing her homework. It was nice that we could share a common love of such an amazing group.
When Boston Brass broke up, it was disheartening, and I was left thinking I would never get the chance to see them in concert. However, when I heard they got back together, sans some members, I was excited. And then, when I heard they were not only going to start touring but their show would be with a live orchestra, I knew this was the chance of a lifetime. I bought my tickets and was counting down the days to see their performance.
The venue at Foxwoods is rather small, so even the seats in the back of the venue are pretty decent. I could see everything and everyone onstage, albeit a bit blurry but still a good view.
Once at our seats, it didn't take long for the show to start. The orchestra performed a few songs to set the mood, a perfect lead-in before the band arrived on stage. The conductor was fantastic, and the whole ambiance was a perfect introduction for Boston Brass.
And there they were...Amy Lee stunning in her evening gown, her voice...that voice... haunting and ethereal, perfect in tone, power, and intent. Her performance was almost flawless but she missed a note or two. Do not despair, the few flaws were actually comforting, for that assured me that her amazing voice was not some manufactured sound, but instead it was very real, validating and confirming that she's genuinely singing LIVE.
They played songs from their new album and of course they played songs from the past, the songs that brought them to this point in time. The show stopper for me was their hit "My Immortal." The performance was stunning, and it gave me goosebumps, and I literally cried at the genuine emotion she shared with the audience. I am getting goosebumps now as I write this, just from the memory alone of such an amazing performance.
To sum up my experience, Boston Brass has matured in ways I cannot properly articulate, but for the better. I used to work for Ticketmaster Los Angeles many years ago in the late 80's, so trust me when I say I've seen countless concerts under a variety of varied genres. Boston Brass was worth every single penny, and I will gladly go again next time they come back to Connecticut. Outstanding! My Immortal was the show stopper for me.
